Details on the latest MP3 player from Archos, the Archos 2, are out. Although there’s little revolutionary about its specs, the very affordable $59 price may be enough to overlook the shortcomings of this budget MP3 player. Its release isn’t an unexpected move from the manufacturer, knowing that it has been almost 2 years since the Archos 105 MP3 player was released.

The Archos 2 is said to meet the needs of most music addicts with its 8GB disk capacity to store about 4,000 songs. It takes on Microsoft Zune and Apple iPod Nano’s portrait-style screen orientations and candy bar designs. With a 1.8-inch color screen (128 x 160 pixel resolution), it includes music playback, video playback, a photo viewer, and voice-recording capabilities.

The latest MP3 player model also features microSD memory expansion. This means you can add more files or music on the fly by swapping cards. But the Archos 2 MP3 player has no FM radio, which is kind of odd knowing that almost all iPod alternatives have one. It comes in black and white, and Amazon is showing one capacity (8GB) so far. But there’s a rumor going on that a 16GB will be released in Europe. Archos has yet to announce the release date of its latest product.

Sanyo has announced the release of four ultra-compact voice recorders, offering convenient MP3 recording and long battery life for extended use. Select models offer advanced features including a built-in stereo microphone, USB file transfer, up to 29 hour battery life, expandable SD memory card slot and up to an amazing 544 hours of record time (with an optional 8GB SDHC card).

Set for U.S. retail availability in early May 2009, SANYO’s advanced new digital MP3 voice recorders include the ICR-FP700D ($129.99 MSRP; Black), ICR-FP600D ($99.99 MSRP; Silver), ICR-FP550e ($79.99 MSRP) and ICR-FP550 ($64.99 MSRP).

Creative has added a new entry-level model to its portable audio player line-up with the ZEN MX. Available in models with 8GB or 16GB of internal memory, the new players look largely like the company’s current ZEN players with detail changes to the control button layout. The same 2.5-inch LCD display with 320×240 resolution remains. Supported audio files include MP3, WMA (with DRM) and Audible 4. As for videos, only Creative’s proprietary video-CMV format is compatible. Creative did include its Creative Centrale software that will convert videos into the format, however.

Apart from the onboard storage space, the ZEN MX has an SDHC card slot for expandability. Files can be transferred between the internal memory and the SDHC card. In addition, the ZEN MX has an FM radio tuner and voice recording functions. The integrated battery is rated for 30 hours of audio playback and 5 hours of videos. Read the rest of this entry »

The last we heard about Samsung’s P3 MP3 player was in January when it was showcased at CES. Well it seems Samsung has finally released the player and it’s not looking half bad.

Featuring a 3-inch touch screen and a capacity of 32GB, the Samsung’s P3 is shaping up to be a worthy opponent to Apple’s 32GB iPod touch.

Unfortunately the P3 is only available in Korea as of now with no North American release date announced. However, if you’re looking to pay a bit more than the 389,000 won ($291) that Samsung is asking, I’m sure you can find somewhere willing to import it.

For girls who can’t get enough of everything Barbie, here’s another gadget to include in the collection. The Barbie Girl MP3 Player not only would make a good music storage device, it can also be used as a hip fashion statement. And it’s more than just an mp3 player, it’s also a fashion doll toy.

Didn’t Samsung release a UMPC with the same name?
