MSI Wind U90

The MSI Wind U90 looks just like the U100. Once you open it, the difference is obvious.

The U90 has a 8.9-inch wide screen, 1024×600 LCD Panel – 1.1 inches smaller than the U100.

But other than that, there’s not much difference between the two models.

Both have the same Intel Atom N270 Processor. Both feature the same magnifying capabilities, wider-than-most keyboard and touchpad, the same built-in hi-res 1.3 megapixel webcam, built-in mic and 2-channel stereo speakers, and the same multi-media app interface.

And like the U100, the U90 runs on Windows XP,

It has a system memory of 512 MB to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and an 80GB hard drive. Plus, it features an 802.1b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.

Some extra features include: 4-in-1 card reader, 3 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet port, VGA out and a 3-cell battery pack.

Its dimensions are 260(L) X 180(D) X 19-31.5(H)mm and is a light-weight at 1.0KG (2.2 lbs) with 3 batt. cells.

Basically, it’s just a cheaper and smaller-screened version of the U100. Unfortunately for those of us on a budget, the U90 won’t be available in the US. Although according to liliputing and endgadget, the Canadian retail store NCIX sells this notebook for $370.

MSI X-Slim hands-on; new sizes coming soon

Electronista had the opportunity to try MSI’s new X-Slim and Wind U123 notebooks at a press event last evening and came away impressed. The X340 is the centerpiece, as it’s one of the first to use Intel’s new CULV processors; that lets it run Vista Home Premium reasonably quickly without having to balloon the form factor. The system is disconcertingly thin: at about 0.7 inches deep and 2.8 pounds heavy, it’s visibly almost as thin as a Dell Adamo and certainly feels much lighter. It should also cost half as much at about $1,000 while running about as quickly.

There are sacrifices made to get there: the X340 (and X320) chassis at least feels like it’s dominated by plastic, and the keys are the typical tray design rather than a ‘chiclet’ design like many notebooks are using. We’d also note that the X320 may be slower than some people would like. It has the same 13.4-inch display and Windows Vista OS as its faster cousin but is using a significantly slower processor and graphics chipset that will bog it down. Consider paying the premium for the faster X340, especially since the X320 is already $700.

Additionally, users who aren’t perfectly content with the current display size to wait if they can. A company spokesman told Electronista that 11.6-, 14- and 15.6-inch versions are coming, which would line up with Acer’s four sizes rumored coming soon.

The Wind U123 is less revolutionary on the outside; it’s not unlike the U120 and other models, with the addition of the extra colors (particularly red) being the highlight. As is common with 10-inch netbooks, the keyboard is edge-to-edge and fairly comfortable, though again it’s a traditional style and not a chiclet design. Performance improvements are equally difficult to gauge. The core change is a 1.66GHz Atom N280 with a faster system bus, but there’s not much to notice without stress testing. It does, however, run faster than the X320 thanks to the smaller screen (which taxes the integrated graphics less) and the use of Windows XP Home.

And while it’s not possible to test this at a press event, the battery life should also be up to the Wind’s typically long levels; MSI estimates about 5.5 hours for the stock 6-cell pack, and a very long 8.5 hours for the bulkier 9-cell. ASUS’ Eee PC 1000HE gets 9.5 hours, but it’s also potentially heavier.

MSI officially has both the X-Slim and Wind updates showing in May, though a representative said they may show up as early as this month. Options for 3G and TV tuning should also surface for the U123 near the launch.

MSI outs Wind U123, X-Slim notebook specs, prices

At the CTIA show in Vegas that kicked off today, MSI is showing off its new Wind U123 netbook along with a pair of new X-series Ultra-Slim notebooks and has released the specs and pricing information for its portable PCs. The new 10.2-inch Wind model is powered by Intel’s 1.66GHz Atom N280 CPU and is the first Wind netbook to offer a 3G data network module and a TV Tuner. For security, the netbook will have MSI’s EasyFace software that will read a user’s facial features via its 1.3-megapixel camera before granting access. Another first in the Wind range is the U123’s availability in a range of colors, adding blue and red in addition to white and gray.

The U123 will weigh nearly 3lbs with its 6-cell battery, and slightly more with the optional 9-cell unit. Standard RAM is rated at 1GB, though it can be doubled thanks to an expansion slot. The 160GB hard drive will have Windows XP Home preloaded on it, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR rounding out hte main specs.

As previously reported, the 13.4-ich X340 will be one of the first notebooks to use Intel’s CULV CPU, rated at 1.3GHz. It will sport a 16:9 LCD capable of high-definition 1366×768 resolution along with an HDMI port, allowing for playback of 1920×1080 resolution HD content. Prices for the X340 will start at under $1,000, MSI announced.

The X320 will be powered by Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom chip and have optional 3G/WiMAX data network support. Pricing for the X320 will start at $700.

MSI also promises both the X340 and X320 will weigh 2.8lbs and feature a 320GB and a 250GB hard drive, respectively, and a 4-cell battery, both stand-outs in the class. An 8-cell battery will be an option. Either system will ship with Windows Vista Home Premium, and three USB ports, a VGA output, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR are other shared features. Both models will be available in sliver, white or black.

The Wind U123 netbook and X320 and X340 notebooks will be available stateside in May.

MSI GT628 Gaming Laptop

The GT628 Gaming Laptop will be available in the United States in the middle of next month. Meanwhile, MSI has not disclosed the price yet.

MSI X340 and X600 Notebook

MSI offers two more notebook considerations in the X340 and the X600. After receiving accolades for its X320, MSI is further expanding its lineup with similar likes. The portable X340 notebook shares its spec sheet with X320 which includes golden ratio 16:9 cinematic 13-inch LED display, 1.98cm at the thickness point while measuring 6mm at the thinnest point and weighs just 1.3kg. You can pick any one among Splendid Champagne Gold, Elegant Pearl White and Stylish Techno Black colors.

Well, the X340 does come with new goodies and is specially designed for those with multimedia requirements. The X340 utilizes the Intel Centrino mobile platform with ULV CPU architecture that bundles up performance, multimedia functions and power saving advantages. MSI Unveils Three New CX Notebooks

MSI unveils a trio of new notebooks that can add more options for people on the go. The three new notebooks are the CX700, CX600 and CR400.

The notebooks weigh 3, 2.5, and 2.2 kg, respectively. The displays feature hi-res, smooth graphics and amazing 3D effects as the CX700 and CX600 are equipped with advanced ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 independent display card(DDR2 512MB VRAM built in) while the CR400 features an exceptional NVIDIA Geforce 8200MG.

With a 16:9 wide-screen aspect ratio, the CX700, CX600 and CR400 come with 17.3-inch, 16-inch and 14-inch LCD displays with MSI’s exclusive Vivid Image Technology.

MSI GT627 Entry Level Laptop

MSI is a great brand to consider if you are on the lookout for a great and affordable laptop oozing with power today. Though the keyboard and screens leave a lot of room for improvement, if you are looking for a power bundle laptop in the market today, this is something worth checking out.

Micro-Star International made its first big push into the U.S. market with its Wind U100 netbook. Now it’s targeting the entry-level gaming laptop market with the GT627. But while the hardware specs look good on paper and provide a good deal of power, a couple of design and build issues severely limit the system’s appeal.

Priced to move at $1150, the GT627 is housed in an understated black aluminum case. A bit of red trim around the edges adds color, but a chrome grille above the keyboard is the only overt sign that this is a gaming laptop. In fact, the GT627 could easily pass for a stylish business notebook.

Eee PC Shell to Arrive by April?

MSI will launch a new netbook in April and Asus seems to like that month too. A new Eee PC will be launched in April and it’s supposed to be the ultra-thin Eee PC Shell netbook. The Shell will be a 10.1-inch netbook which is rumored to offer us better graphics and better battery life. The Eee PC Shell will cost around $486-571. We don’t have specific details yet but at least when it’s coming and how much it costs. Official news should emerge soon enough.

MSI Wind U123 to Arrive in April

MSI’s Wind line is ready to receive a new brother. The U123 will arrive in April but we have no price for it just yet. As for features, the new U123 will offer you an Intel Atom N280 processor and up to 2GB of RAM. The U123 comes in four colors and as for battery you will be able to choose between a 6- or a 9-cell. MSI is said to be developing both a 11.6-inch and a 12-inch version so we should receive some official confirmation soon.
