HP Probook S-Series

Hewlett Packard announced a new line of inexpensive notebook PC targeting the business professionals. The HP Probook series is expected to become one of the most versatile business notebook portfolios in the industry. The design of the HP Probook combines the matte and glossy surfaces while stripping out the extraneous, leaving a very minimalist look.

The standard series (or the s-series) of HP Probook models have a mercury-free design, featuring high-definition LED backlit displays with a choice between 14-inch, 15.6-inch, and 17.3-inch diagonal widescreen sizes. Like other Probooks that will be developed, the s-series is distinguished by a unique keyboard design and a set of professional innovations previously found only on higher-priced models.

The innovative layout of the keyboard provides a visually open and spacious appearance, with keys raised from the surface. You can use it just like any other keyboards, only that the raised surface makes it less likely trap dirt and dust, while making it easy to clean and more maintenance free.

Some of the HP Probook models will have the latest in wireless connectivity through HP Mobile Braodband. Using a single module, the HP un2400, the HP Probook enables to support multiple mobile broadband network technologies and mobile operators. The s-series will also have HP QuickLook 2 software, which provides access to e-mail, calendar, task, and contact information at the touch of a button. Meanwhile, the HP Sparekey makes the hassle of forgotten passwords less stressful by using a sequence of predetermined personal information questions to gain immediate entry to the system.

In addition, the Probook s-series has been developed for reduced impact on the environment by eliminating or reducing substances said to harm the environment, using fewer resource and consuming lesser energy.

HP chases Apple with ProBook designer line

HP tonight put pressure on Apple’s high-end MacBook Pros, as well as the current Dell Latitude series, by launching its ProBook s-series portables. The new systems are exercises in minimalism and blur the distinctions between home and work models: though they have quick access to calendars and contacts as well as added security measures and the option of 3G, they all have 16:9 ratio, LED-backlit screens, options for media features like Blu-ray or dedicated non-workstation graphics, and a merlot red body color option. They mark HP’s first systems to use through-the-shell “chiclet” keyboards like Apple’s MacBooks or certain Sony models.

The 14-inch ProBook 4410s and 4415s have received few details but will come with Intel and AMD processors respectively, with at least a GMA 4500 or Mobility Radeon HD 4330 providing graphics. Both have HDMI standard and a Bluetooth option on top of the optical choice common across the whole line.
At the mid-range, the 15.6-inch ProBook 4510s (Intel) and 4515s (AMD) have received more details. Despite their size, both fit numeric keypads. They also get options for 3G and dedicated graphics. While the 4515s’ specs are as yet unpublished, the 4510s’ most common configuration will provide a 1366×768 display, a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB of RAM, a DVD burner and GMA 4500 video.

The 17.3-inch ProBook 4510s comes only as an Intel-based system and with a minimum Mobility Radeon HD 4330 for graphics. It starts with a 1600×900 LCD and a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB of memory, a DVD rewriter and a 320GB hard disk.

Pricing hasn’t been published for most systems, but HP asserts that a base ProBook will cost $529. The 15.6- and 17.3-inch examples are already available to order and should be joined soon by the 14-inch version, though the red hue won’t be available until June.

HP Pavilion DV6T Gaming Laptop Gets a Facelift

Laptops come in all shapes and sizes and normally, specs are important over the outer features. Apparently the HP Pavilion DV6T is a makeover from the previous DV7T laptop that was released last month. And the new offering is certainly enticing considering its specifications.

That includes your choice of 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 or 1GB HD 4650 graphics, which have edged out the previous NVIDIA options, although the rest of the specs seem to have remained largely untouched, including the usual range of Core 2 Duo processors, up to 8GB of RAM, a max 500GB hard drive, and an unfortunately lackluster 1366 x 768 resolution on that 16-inch display.

You can also now get the laptop in your choice of Espresso Black or Moonlight White color schemes, although there seems to be a $25 premium over the $679.99 base price for the latter option
