Gigabyte Booktop M1022 and Touch Note T1028 Arrives in the U.S

Ready to battle the whoever is reigning supreme or threatening to take over the touch screen netbook/nettop market in the U.S. is Gigabyte with the availability of the Gigabyte Booktop M1022 and Touch Note T1028 netbooks.

Both Gigabyte touch screen machines are now selling at Amazon, with the Booktop M1022 having a price tag of $449, while the Touch Note T1028 is selling for $599.

The Touch Note T1028 is a 10.1 tablet netbook that could easily compete with the just released Asus Eee PC T91 which is selling for around $499 by virtue of its smaller touch screen display. *Update – the Amazon product page says this netbook is no longer available*

On the other hand, the Booktop M1022 happens to be a tablet convertible PC that comes with a docking station and boasts of a 6-cell battery that can give out 8 hours of battery life.

Accessories maker Thrustmaster has recently introduced two upcoming accessories for the new Nintendo DSi with the T-Standee Charger and T-Strap Charger. The former charges the DSi via a standard wall plug and doubles as an adjustable stand that can hold the device in either landscape or portrait orientation. The T-Strap Charger replaces the standard carrying strap of the DSi and can be removed to charge the portable gaming console from any USB port. The Thrustmaster T-Standee charger is priced at the equivalent of $17 and has a mid-June shipping date in Europe, while the T-Strap Charger is currently available, priced at the equivalent of nearly $11.

LG W53 SMART Series LCD Monitor

LG Electronics, one of the leading manufacturers of business solutions has recently launched its newest LCD monitor series.

According to the press release, LG’s W53 SMART Monitor Series boasts of “cutting-edge SMART technologies” that, aside from providing the usual “top picture quality,” significantly reduces eyestrain.

The SMART Monitor series comes equipped with Auto Brightness feature which allows for automatic brightness adjustment. As a side plus, this feature reduces power consumption by lowering backlight intensity.

The Cinema Mode takes out online video viewing distractions by blacking out “everything except for the video clip” and letting users concentrate on their video clip.

Central to the eyestrain reduction theme is a timer which comes with LG’ SMART monitors, obviously to remind users to take a breather. Users can easily set reminders according to their preference via the interface that controls the monitor’s settings.

The SMART monitor series also comes with a proximity sensor located under the monitor’s bezel which detects a hand as it approaches the screen. Detection activates lights that make buttons easy to find when necessary. Lights automatically go out when not in use.

LG’s W53 SMART Monitors are available in sizes from 18.5 to 27 inches. The bigger monitors – 21.5 inches and up – provide 1920 x 1080p Full HD resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio, which makes them perfect for games and Full HD movies.

The monitors also feature a digital fine contrast ratio of up to 50,000:1 and a 2ms response time.

According to the press release, shipping of the new W53 SMART Monitor Series starts this April (though some gadget review sites pin the shipping date on May) but there are no updates on pricing yet.

Chrysler Peapod Electric Car

Electric vehicles (EVs) used to reside only in our wild imagination. But we will be seeing them roaming the street soon. Chrysler is set to launch its PeaPod electric car in 2010. This compact, battery-powered electric vehicle will be available on the market as a 1-seater, a 2-seater, or a utility van. Prices will start from around $20,000.

Developed by Chrysler’s Green Eco Mobility (GEM), this electric car can travel about 40 miles on one charging. According to Peter Arnell, Chrysler’s innovation chief, this is just right for most daily commutes.

To save costs and lessen life-cycle carbon dioxide emissions, the company is planning to manufacture the PeaPod electric car in existing factories located as near to its key market areas as possible. Chrysler boss Bob Nardelli hinted that, depending on consumer reception, they could use similar technology in mainstream Chrysler vehicles in the near future.

The competition is keeping a close eye on how consumers will respond to the PeaPod electric car, especially considering its niche appeal as an unusual and affordable electric car for urban use. GEM has pedigree when it comes to EVs, claiming that 38,000 of its EVs are currently in use.

Bee.One Electric Car

The technology of today is slowly adapting to the changes that surround them. As the world becomes greener with more people advocating for sustainable energy, a start-up company takes a risk and introduces what could be the world’s cheapest electric car.

The British company Bee has updated the techie universe with some new details on its affordable electric car called One, which is said to be sold at around £12,000 (US$17,700). If the development goes on as planned, this four-seat, five-door vehicle will has a top speed of about 80 miles per hour and can drive up to 200 miles in a single charge.

Bee.One will run on two battery packs placed under the floor, which can also be easily swappable in the event charging stations become more available, or when new and better batteries become a more sensible option. The Bee.One is also set to have a constant 3G constant cellular connection so you can monitor and be updated about the car’s performance system software.

This electric car drives from two electric motors that power the front wheels. This dual motor set-up is unique to Bee.One, eliminating the need for heavy and expensive differential.

Another cool thing about the Bee.One is that not only you can buy it cheap, the UK government will also subsidize electric car purchases, which will bring the cost down to just about £12,000 (or slightly over US$10,000). It may not be as cheap as the Tata, but this one is electric. The Bee.One is scheduled to go into production on 2011, with an initial run of about 12,000 units.

Aside from One, the Bee is also working one a two-seat roadster to be named the Bee.Four, which should be able to run up to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds, as well as a F1-style electric hill climb racer.

Sonnet announces R400P four-drive 1U RAID rackmount

Sonnet has released the Fusion R400P, a four-drive RAID SATA rackmount storage system. The system supports RAID 0, 1, and JBOD and arrives in a 1U rackmount enclosure. It is available in configurations from driveless to 6TB and has an eSATA single-cable port. The new unit is based on Sonnet’s Fusion R400Q series and can reach speeds of 220MB/sec in a RAID 0 configuration. The R400P in RAID 0 can support 16 DV streams, 9 HDV 1080i streams or can handle an uncompressed 10-bit 1080 HD stream. It is compatible with Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Adobe’s Premier Pro and it works with capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox and Bluefish444.

The case features drive activity, drive presence, and power LEDs and uses quiet fans for cooling. Its integrated port-multiplier means only one eSATA cable is needed to attach the R400P. Mac platform users have the ability to hot-swap drives without a shutdown. The new system is expected to ship this week for prices ranging from $600 (bare) to $1900 (6TB).

There’s definitely something wrong with carriers’ roaming charges. A man in vacation in Mexico thought of downloading Wall-E over his wireless carrier’s network. Now that’s a wrong move in the first place, not knowing what the tariffs are. He ended up having to pay a $62,000 bill. He has negotiated the bill down to $17,000 after complaining about the initial number. These are bandwidth costs according to the carrier but it sounds weird to pay $17,000 for a 700MB file. At least everyone else learned an important lesson from this event.

GoldVish Revolution has diamonds and a Swiss watch too

Looking for a nice and somewhat unique style icon to go with your Armani suit? If yes, GoldVish has a new limited edition cell phone for you called the Revolution. Like the Le Million (which costs as much as its name suggests), the Revolution is another luxury cell phone that is slathered in diamonds and then dipped in pink and white gold for good measure. The form factor is vaguely reminiscent of a candybar with rounded edges and a small display, keypad (numbered again with diamonds of course), and right below all this bling, a fully functioning watch assembled by the famed Swiss watchmaker, Frederic Jouvenot. It seems like these are the only specs that matter, as the technical aspects are not even hinted at from the news source.

Only nine of the GoldVish Revolution luxury phones will ever be made, so if you want it, better scrape up the 369000 Euros ($488,150 or so) it commands.
