BlackBerry Storm Get Cut Price at $99

We’re pretty sure the BlackBerry Storm 2’s announcement is coming soon, and we just got a little more evidence: The not-so-loved original Storm’s price has just been dropped to $99 with a 2-year contract.

If you’re sure you need to stick with Verizon, this probably looks enticing, but we’d definitely recommend waiting. The Storm 2 will probably cost in the $150-250 range to compete with the iPhone, Pre, and various Android offerings, and for all we know, it might be great. Even the BlackBerry Tour might be a better option that the original Storm, which isn’t the worst phone ever but hasn’t exactly been a fan favorite either. [Verizon]

iPhone 3G S launched by 3 Italy for a Good Price

3 Italy has recently launched Apple’s new iPhone 3G S, and its prices are quite attractive.

On contract, the 16GB iPhone 3G S costs as low as €99 ($140). The 32GB model is obviously more expensive, starting at €199 ($280) with a contract agreement.

Customers can also buy the iPhone 3G S 16GB and 32GB with various 3 pre-pay plans, or free of any contract, for €599 and €699 respectively.

Samsung Ultra S Elegant Edition Available in Hong Kong

Samsung has unveiled a new version of the existing device, designed for girls or for everyone who digs pink color (actually that’s “Sakura pink”) for their handset. It’s called Samsung Anycall Ultra S S7350H Elegant Edition and it comes together with a pink leather pouch and a makeup mirror — ok, it’s for girls, only!

There’s also a special mobile content pre-installed on the S7350H, including “romantic mobile theme” and “smart seasonal wallpapers,” which change automatically according to the upcoming calendar event. For instance, there are special wallpapers for such days as Valentine’s Day, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and so on.

Specs wise, there’s a 2.6-inch WQVGA screen, 3G, GPS, 5 megapixel camera, and microSD memory card slot. Pricing is unknown at this stage, but we think it will be just a little more expensive than the original S7350…

Gigabyte Booktop M1022 and Touch Note T1028 Arrives in the U.S

Ready to battle the whoever is reigning supreme or threatening to take over the touch screen netbook/nettop market in the U.S. is Gigabyte with the availability of the Gigabyte Booktop M1022 and Touch Note T1028 netbooks.

Both Gigabyte touch screen machines are now selling at Amazon, with the Booktop M1022 having a price tag of $449, while the Touch Note T1028 is selling for $599.

The Touch Note T1028 is a 10.1 tablet netbook that could easily compete with the just released Asus Eee PC T91 which is selling for around $499 by virtue of its smaller touch screen display. *Update – the Amazon product page says this netbook is no longer available*

On the other hand, the Booktop M1022 happens to be a tablet convertible PC that comes with a docking station and boasts of a 6-cell battery that can give out 8 hours of battery life.

Nokia’s trying to make a big deal today about the fact that the N86 8MP will be coming to Nokia’s US flagship stores in New York and Chicago along with nokiausa.com in the “coming weeks,” but in light of the company’s recent North American strategy shift, the US availability of the N85, and the handling of the N97 launch, we’d be far more surprised if it wasn’t coming. As for pricing, you’re going to be looking at $558 out the door — an oddball price, to be sure, but considering that you’re getting arguably the best S60 3.2 device ever conceived, it seems within the realm of reason (and you’ll be able to get it through third-party retailers for considerably less, we’d wager). Who’s in?

In case you’ve forgotten, the HTC Hero has a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, HSPA, WiFi b/g and GPS, together with the latest Android OS 1.5 “Cupcake”. Where it differs from HTC’s previous Android devices, however, is in HTC Sense, the company’s new UI which integrates with the open-source OS and adds numerous widgets and other usability improvements.

We’ll have the full review of the HTC Hero very soon, after we’ve had the chance to put it through its paces. First impressions? It’s perhaps the best Android device to-date.

Sony Announced Netbook Vaio W

Sony released its first sub-$500 VAIO today. Like most netbooks on the market, the VAIO W Series comes with 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, Intel Atom N280 processor and Windows XP. The VAIO W Series netbook will start cost $499

The VAIO W Series netbook comes with a a high-resolution 16:9 (1366×768) display. Jamming more pixels on the display means users won’t have to scroll as much compared to lower-resolution displays.

Sony’s netbooks will be available in pink, white and brown. The lid has a matte soft-touch finish. The interior of the white and brown netbooks will have a silver finish that complements the exterior colors. The pink W’s interior will have a silver-pink finish.

I spoke with a Kevin Sather, a Sony product manager, yesterday who said the standard three-cell battery will last up to three hours. An optional six-cell battery will be available in September. He said that Sony is targeting consumers who will be using the W Series netbooks at home since research shows that is where the majority of netbook users end up using them.

To make media sharing easier at home, the W Series comes with VAIO Media. This software makes it possible to stream multimedia content to any DLNA-enabled device, including the PS3, other PCs and select Sony Bravia HDTVs.

The Sony W Series netbooks come with a built-in webcam, Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n.
Sony will sell a USB mouse for $29.99 in pink, black and silver. Matching sleeves are also available for $24.99.

The VAIO W Series is available for pre-order at SonyStyle.com and will be available at retail partners begining August 17.

Sony execs previously stated that the company would stay out of the netbook space and hoped the industry would avoid a “race to the bottom,” but the market for affordable computers is apparently too big for Sony to ignore.

Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman Available Now

Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman

Sony Ericsson is out with a new Walkman phone. The so called W205 is an entry-level device, designed for first-time mobile phone buyers. Specs wise, there’s a 1.8-inch 128×160 pixels screen, dual-band GSM/GPRS radio, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera with 2.2x digital zoom (you can take both photos and videos with it), FM radio, TrackID, multiple phone books, 5MB of internal memory that is further expandable with Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards. As for the size, the W205 measures 92×47×16.4 mm, and has a weight of 96 grams.
Two versions of the phone will be available – the “standard” for the markets of Europe and Asia, supporting 900 and 1800 MHz bands; and the W205a for the Americas, which works on 850 and 1900 MHz frequencies. Release date is set for Q3 2009, when interested users will be able to grab it in “Ambient Black.”

Along with the new Walkman phone, Sony Ericsson also unveiled its new portable speakers. The so called MS410 Snap-on Speaker Stand is attached to the bottom of the phone (using the “unique sliding mechanism” to fit all Walkman phones) and also integrates an FM radio antenna, eliminating the need to attach headsets, as well. It should start selling in “selected markets” starting from the second quarter of this year.

Motorola Aura Celestial Edition Celebrates 40th Moon Landing Anniversary

Motorola wows us not with another RAZR-like handset, but with the Celestial Edition of its Motorola Aura in order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. This is but the standard Aura with additional extras including original NASA content from the moon landing such as video footage, stills and famous audio snippets like “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, and “The Eagle has landed”.

Bear in mind that Motorola were the ones who provided the original radio transponder aboard Apollo 11 that in turn, relayed the first words and visuals from the moon to Earth. There is no word on pricing, but knowing how commemorative editions of anything in the world is expensive, this will surely cost you a handsome.

Asus Eee T91 Impressed With Rotational Screen

After seeing the unit get ripped apart by the FCC and go hands on with plenty of people, Asus has just officially announced it via a press release on their site. While the usual marketing mumbo jumbo is present (they are really pushing it by claiming to have 82GB of total* storage space), we are still left without a price or release date.

It seems that Asus is trying to push their touch oriented software hard; we’ll see if it is really useful or just shows off the touchscreen, eventually. At least they were kind enough to leave us a nice table of specs, but unfortunately I’m not seeing anything that we didn’t already know about the Asus Eee T91, maybe with the exception of a “well-designed stylus”… I hope they aren’t talking about the same one we saw in a hands on video a few weeks ago. Hopefully the 5 hour battery life statement is accurate (fingers crossed!).

We’ve already played with the Sony Ericsson Naite GreenHeart, but it’s the flashy Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart that’s got us green with envy. It’s the powerful cellphone snapper announced a few months back (5MP camera, Xenon flash, 3G), with the promise of less waste and nasty materials. But even if eco isn’t your thing, you have to admit it’s a beautiful looking blower.
The Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C901 also comes with a new MH300 GreenHeart headset squished inside the pico-packaging, made almost entirely out of recyclable plastic, so you won’t feel bad about ramming it in your ear.

However, we’ve been pretty excited about this handset ever since the 6700 classic was announced, largely because it has a feature set that blows the competition out of the water.

We’ve managed to get our hands on one, so check out what comes with the Nokia 6700 classic when it’s unboxed…
The Nokia 6700 classic manages to pack in one hell of a lot of features for a slim candybar phone that weighs just 116g. You’ll find this Symbian S40 phone comes with a full aluminium jacket and a sharp 2.2-inch that supports 16.7 millions colours.

Then there is the fact is comes with A-GPS built-in, along with a whoppin 5-Megapixel camera that is bound to impress. It ships with 150MB of internal memory and 1GB microSD card, but you can easily swap this out for a 8GB card if you wish. It’s worth bearing in mind that this phone costs just £220 (inc. VAT) SIM free, so makes a great upgrade choice.

We’ve known about Nokia’s so-called Surge for months now, but at long last, AT&T has done its duty by making things official and giving us a price and release date to consider. The Symbian S60-based smartphone is aimed squarely at social media freaks, boasting a full QWERTY keyboard, a browser with Flash support ( imagine that, right?), a pre-installed JuiceCaster app for easily updating your Facebook / Twitter status and a price tag that’s sure to turn heads.

For just $79.99 after rebate, you’ll also get a 2 megapixel camera, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Video Share and the pleasure of handing over at least $30 per month for a required data plan (if you want the $50 rebate, anyway). If you’re sold already, you can get yours on July 19th.

LG GB130 Phone Launched

LG have officially launched their GB130 phone over in Russia. The phone is stylish, compact and available at an affordable price, perfect for those of you looking for a simple phone at a good price for your pocket.

Sprint Launched LG LX290, Inferno BlackBerry Curve 8330

The mobile phone market is doing well despite the poor economy, particularly in the smartphone segment. There is also a market for devices that aren’t smartphones but offer lots of features and are centered on messaging.

Specifications for the LG LX290 have been provided to us by Sprint and the device looks to be a solid phone for those looking to keep in touch. The handset will be available on the Sprint network and features a sliding design, access to email, and text messages.

Other features include a 2.5mm headphone jack, which means your headphones probably won’t fit. The device is GPS-enabled and supports email form AOL, Yahoo, and Windows Live. The device can record and send voice messages. The handset measure 4.09-inches x 1.94-inches x 0.63-inches and weighs 3.6 ounces. The screen is a 1.33 x 1.77-inch TFT with a resolution of 240 x 320. Pricing and availability are not known.

Sprint has also released a new color version of the

BlackBerry Curve 8330: Inferno (which is actually some sort of orange).

BlackBerry Curve 8330 costs $49.99 with a 2-yr contract agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Like the LG LX290, the new Curve can be bought both online and from Sprint’s retail locations.

Of course, you can always buy the brand new BlackBerry Tour instead.

LG LX290

Sprint announced the LG LX290 slider phone. The LX290 has dedicated application shortcut keys as well as a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth and GPS. It is available online starting today for $30 after rebates with new agreement.

“Compact and sleek productivity” might be a bit over the top, but the bottom line is this: at $29.99 on contract after rebates, LG’s new LX290 for Sprint is one of the cheapest ways to get Sprint Navigation and email access in your pocket. The slider packs a 1.3 megapixel camera for basic shooting needs, instant messaging capability, AGPS (naturally), a 320 x 240 display, and a 2.5mm audio jack — we would’ve preferred 3.5, of course, but at that bargain-basement price, we’ll take what we can get. The phone is available now, so go on, get productive.

Sony Has Launched Walkman B Series and E Series

Sony Walkmans B Series and E Series models have hit UK market. The E Series models are slim at just 9.3mm think. The E Series sports a two-inch LCD for viewing video files, photos and album art. The Sony E Series Walkman will be available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities, and black or red shells.

The E Series will offer you the following features:

Jon Barrow, Which? MP3 player expert, said: ‘With the both the Sony B Series and, slightly more advanced, E Series, Sony has launched two new, and very basic, models into an already crowded market.

‘Being Sony models we expect them to fare reasonably well in our tests. If you’re after an entry-level device, rather than something more advanced like an Apple iPod Touch or the Sony X series Walkman, then these models will probably do the job.’

Both the B and E Series will launch at the end of July.
