Sony Ericsson W205 Walkman

Sony Ericsson is out with a new Walkman phone. The so called W205 is an entry-level device, designed for first-time mobile phone buyers. Specs wise, there’s a 1.8-inch 128×160 pixels screen, dual-band GSM/GPRS radio, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera with 2.2x digital zoom (you can take both photos and videos with it), FM radio, TrackID, multiple phone books, 5MB of internal memory that is further expandable with Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards. As for the size, the W205 measures 92×47×16.4 mm, and has a weight of 96 grams.
Two versions of the phone will be available – the “standard” for the markets of Europe and Asia, supporting 900 and 1800 MHz bands; and the W205a for the Americas, which works on 850 and 1900 MHz frequencies. Release date is set for Q3 2009, when interested users will be able to grab it in “Ambient Black.”

Along with the new Walkman phone, Sony Ericsson also unveiled its new portable speakers. The so called MS410 Snap-on Speaker Stand is attached to the bottom of the phone (using the “unique sliding mechanism” to fit all Walkman phones) and also integrates an FM radio antenna, eliminating the need to attach headsets, as well. It should start selling in “selected markets” starting from the second quarter of this year.

After 3GS iPhone, Nokia N97, mobile market is still waiting for another series like Sony Ericsson Satio, HD Samsung Omnia, Nokia E72.

Sony Ericsson Satio was worth waiting in year 2008. It is the first touchphone of Japan – Sweden manufacturer, runs on S60 OS version 5. Satio with 12 Megapixel camera, Xenon flash support, high resolution display of HD 16:9 movie. Phone equipped with a series of connected peak, 3D gaming. Products expected to be presented in October.

Comes with Satio, HD Omnia Samsung i8910 is the first mobile to allow take video at resolution of 720p HD. Sony Ericsson W518a Approved by the FCC

Sony Ericsson’s W518a has just been approved by the FCC and it’s going to arrive soon in the USA from AT&T. We don’t have exact dates for you but the phone should be available in the following months. The W518a is a GPS-version of the Sony Ericsson W508 and it will feature a QVGA display, external music-dedicated keys and a 3.2 megapixel camera. We’ll be waiting for some prices with those final arrival dates.

One of the most important feature of the W995 is that 8 megapixel shooter. The W995 will not only play all that music for you but it will also help you take some amazing pictures. Other specs include 8GB of internal memory, 2.6-inch QVGA scratch-resistant screen, aGPS, WiFi, stereo speakers and Walkman player 4.0. The phone has HSPA support but it lacks 850/1800/1900 MHz WCDMA bands needed for the North American markets. Will Sony Ericsson launch this baby only in Europe?

The Sony Ericsson W508 Walkman Phone is quite a departure style wise from other previous SE phones. For one, it utilizes a clamshell design, probably the first time this has been done for a mobile phone from Sony Ericsson. This may help add to its appeal as a Walkman phone.

When closed, the Sony Ericsson W508 does not look like a usual SE phone. Its exterior design actually makes it look like a portable music player. In fact, there are buttons made out to help users easily access music files this way that helps boost up its PMP image. It is also equipped with a shake control feature that allows users to proceed to the next song by a simple shake of the phone (or gadget). It also sports a 3.2 mega pixel camera and supports video calling. From the looks of it, people would be interested more for it being a “Walkman” rather than for its phone features. It would be a case of “to each his own” for this phone cum music player.

The Idou from Sony Ericsson might not be the must-have phone you were waiting for but we have a rumored date for it. The Idou should go on sale in October which means you will get plenty of time to adjust your budget for it. That impressive camera will definitely cost you an extra buck or two.

The phone will offer you a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a 12 megapixel camera, GPS and probably more smartphone-like features. According to Sony Ericsson officials the phone will ship “sometime in the second half of the year” but nobody is confirming the October launch date.

If music ain’t your thing, Sony Ericsson has just announced another cell phone, the S312, another low-ender in its S class of handsets. There is not much to write home about, but for a entry level cell phone, the S312 does seem pretty loaded. Buyers will find Bluetooth, FM radio, a 2-inch TFT display, a speakerphone, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/900/1800 connectivity. The music player included is also capable of TrackID akin to the W205 and there’s a M2 slot for further expansion. A 2-megapixel camera with a dedicated camera key is also thrown in along with the ability to snap pictures “horizontally,” which as you know is possible on any cameraphone out there.

The Sony Ericsson S312 will make its way to the market in the second quarter of 2009 for a price that is yet to be announced.

Sony Ericsson launches the affordable W205 Walkman phone

For someone looking for top-of-the-line music quality within their budget, the W205 from Sony Ericsson should seem pretty alluring. With support for GSM/GPRS 900/1800 and GSM/GPRS 850/1900 (W205a), this newest member’s forte may not be blazing fast speeds but to be a good Walkman phone, and it seems like it is, with all the usual Walkman-only features including TrackID, which can identify the number you liked and recorded on its FM radio. Other than that, we have a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 1.8-inch display, speakerphone, Bluetooth, up to 2GB expansion via an M2 slot, and Opera Mini for web browsing. The W205 can keep you entertained for up to 13 hours 30 mins or up to 9 hours of talktime on a single charge.

The W205 Walkman phone will be available starting this third quarter in a unique color of Ambient Black for an unknown price, but we are sure it won’t be high enough to burn through anyone’s pockets.

Sony Ericcson hands on at CTIA: T707a clamshell

Sony Ericcson established a small presence at CTIA, with a few handsets nestled inside the larger Ericcson area. The upcoming T707a clamshell was on hand, sporting a metallic green finish. The 128 by 36 pixel external LCD remains relatively invisible below the reflective surface until a button is pressed, making it fairly difficult to read in bright light conditions. Although stylish, the display would probably be ineffective in direct sunlight.

The handset was light, weighing in around 95 grams. The main display offers 240 by 320 pixel resolution and the user interface seems bright, although the phone was not configured which prevented us from taking a closer look. A 3.2-megapixel camera is the only noticeable feature on the front of the phone, while a rounded area contains LEDs that can be configured to flash specific colors for certain callers.

The camera also serves as a motion sensor, silencing the ring when a hand swipes over the phone. Up to 100MB of internal memory will be included, with the option to insert a Memory Stick Micro card.

The company did not disclose pricing information or which carrier will offer the phone first.

ST-Ericsson Announced New Chip for Music Playback on the Phone

Ericsson partnered up with STMicroelectronics and the two allies have already come up with a new product. The next-generation STw52111 chip is a mobile audio chip which will double the music playback on your future music phone or MP3 player. The new digital-to-analog converter will let manufacturers build new devices capable of offering you the highest levels of audio quality and the longer playback time. The two companies have combined PTE or Playback Time Extender with a technology with “102dB signal-to-noise ratio through the whole audio path”. The STw5211 will have the following features:

66dB THD (Total harmonic distortion)
8 to 192kHz sample rate conversion
32kHz RTC clock-only operationSystem clock generator
2.6 x 2.6mm footprint (only few external components required)

The chip will be available in April for inspections and testing and it will go into massive production in August. Are we going to see new Walkman handsets from Sony Ericsson equipped with the technology? What about new MP3s?

Not long ago we told you how people say Ericsson is interested in leaving Sony for good and Sony is trying to come up with the funds required to buyout its partner. It looks like that was all a rumor as s Ericsson isn’t going anywhere. A new report from Dow Jones is confirming that Ericsson “has no plans to abandon its joint venture Sony Ericsson.” I guess we don’t need more confirmation than that. Although Sony might indeed be thinking differently about the whole issue.

Sony Ericsson Expects $500 Million Loss After First Quarter Sales

While Palm is relying on its future Pre to take it out of its misery, Sony Ericsson doesn’t have any hot phone coming soon. And the company isn’t doing that well either in terms of money making out of its cellphone business. First quarter of the year sales for Sony Ericsson have dropped 50%. That means a loss of around $500 million which is about double the loss of the quarter before. Let’s face it here, Sony Ericsson don’t have phones appealing to the average people going through this recession. What will happen when Ericsson will leave the partnership?

O2 UK launches the Sony Ericsson T700 Rouge

Sony Ericsson Twiggy leaked

We have seen many a leak come from different sources, but this one is special. Seems like Sony Ericsson has unwittingly revealed a new cell phone in their ad campaign promoting the MS500 wireless speaker and guess what it’s called? Another lady-like name just as the previous codenames we have heard for most unreleased Sony Ericsson handsets of course, and this one is called Twiggy. We don’t have much to go on now except for an indication that the Twiggy is to be the successor for the already available W350 Walkman phone, but something tells us we’ll know more about it before the month is up and if that happens, MW will keep you posted.

Last year we’ve heard various rumors saying that Sony and Ericsson will part ways. That hasn’t happened yet but it looks like something will definitely going to change. Ericsson wants out of the cell phone business and Sony if fine with it. In fact Sony will buy Ericsson’s share and continue on its own. So how do you like this new rumor? No official statements have been made yet so we’re still looking for confirmation for this one.

SK Telecom will be the lucky carrier to play mama to this multimedia monster, but are those tech-savvy Koreans really that eager to get their hands on it, considering the kind of Korean gadgets that we hear and see in pictures from time to time? The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 isn’t available here in the States too, but who cares when have the iPhone 3.0 to look forward to, huh?

Sony Ericsson MS-410 mobile speaker caught in the wild

Now, here’s something that could become quite popular when it hits the streets. A couple of pictures were seen floating around the planet-se forums showing a Sony Ericsson-branded mobile speaker with a W995 sitting snug on top it. The speaker seems pretty small in comparison to the W995, but the MS-410 might gain some fans just because of its diminutive size that could go into anyone’s pocket right next to their favorite Walkman phone.

No information on price or a release date, but we are sure Sony Ericsson is already prepping one.

Sony Ericsson’s Idou is a 12 megapixel camera phone which might make an impression once it arrives. The handset will be a great tool for both mobile entertainment and fast communication and it looks like Sony Ericsson has prepared a Stylus which seems destined to go with the handset. Sony Ericsson hasn’t made it clear if the stylus will be bundled with the Idou or if you will have to get it separately.
