iD Software Release Wolfenstein for Jailbroken iPhone; App Store Version of Wolfenstein & Doom Coming Soon

John Carmack, co-founder of id Software, developer of very popular games such as Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake has just released an open-source port of Wolfenstein for jailbroken iPhone.
He has also announced that they have submitted a version of Wolfenstein; Wolfenstein 3D Classic to the App Store for approval. He has also confirmed that Doom will be available fairly soon.
Wolfenstein 3D was originally released by id Software back in 1992 and is generally given the credit for popularizing the first shooter genre on the PC.
John Carmack ported Wolfenstein to the iPhone and has released it for the jailbroken iPhone for free download. He has announced that they have also submitted a version of Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein 3D Classic to the App Store for approval.
They have created a preview page for the iPhone version of Wolfenstein 3D Classic. As per the preview page, you can expect the following:
- Wolfenstein 3D Classic is non-stop action and all of the memorable enemies are there for you to conquer from Hans Grosse to MechaHitler.
- Includes all six original episodes with 60 classic levels and unforgettable weapons like the brutal chain gun
- Search levels for hidden secrets that reveal stolen Nazi treasure, health packs, ammo and weapons or even short cuts.
- Choose clever new touch controls or drive with the tilt controls to halt the diabolical Nazi schemes.
- Wolfenstein 3D Classic makes use of an all new control system designed for the iPhone.
John Carmack has also confirmed that Doom will be available on the App Store fairly soon in his long post where he shares his experience developing on the iPhone platform (which is an interesting read if you are an iPhone developer).
It will be interesting to see how much id Software will charge for Wolfenstein 3D Classic on the App Store.
