The latest handset to be released by Blackberry is the blackberry torch and offers a handset that has many similar applications and functions to that of the iPhone. Similarities such as a touchscreen display and fully functional QWERTY keyboard, bringing the Blackberry Torch up to date with many of the smartphones on the market today.

The Blackberry Torch has all the features you could wish for in a smartphone, some of which include Google Maps, calendar applications, easy accessible internet, an address book, a games centre and an assortment of downloadable apps.

Blackberry handsets are renowned for being great business phones as they offer the user the ability to access their emails on tap, in the shape of both personal and work emails.

The handset itself offers a sleek and business like design complete with aluminium look casing and a slim body, making it the perfect handset to slide in a pocket or small bag.

The best feature of this particular smart phone has to be the re-vamped multimedia; the memory for example offers 8 GB, which is in fact expandable to up to 32 GB.

The pinch and zoom option is another great feature of this handset and allows users to zoom in and out in order to view content more clearly.

The enhanced music is complimented by a full screen, which allows users to view full album art work as well as track listings in both landscape and portrait mode.

Integrated social feeds make this a great handset for those that like to stay in touch with friends and family on a regular basis with regular RSS feeds direct to the handset’s screen. Multiple networks can also be used in conjunction with one single post.

All in all this is a great phone for both personal and business requirements.

Blackberry Torch 2

It seems to be sequel season in the mobile phone world. We have just seen announcements about the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Desire S, with both phones looking like they will hit the shops over here in s couple of weeks. Now there has been talk of the internet to a remake of another one of last year’s stand out phones, the Blackberry Torch.

The Blackberry Torch could be considered a sign of things to come for Research in Motion as they moved last year towards a more consumer driven approach, shifting away from the business model that had served them so well for years and years. Well as for the immediate future, the Torch is definitely the template as RIM looks to bring back their most famous touch screen phone for another crack at the other top smart phones, the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S.

The new model is basically just an improved version of last year’s phone and this should not disappoint anyone who has used the original Torch, which was a very good phone. One area in which they have kept the phone the same is the aesthetics. From what we have gathered, the new Torch looks pretty much exactly like the old one, with the same touchscreen/QWERTY keyboard combination that proved so popular last year. It has seen its screen improved to a better 640 x 480-pixel display. The Torch 2 also packs a new and much faster 1.2GHz processor to run the hundreds of new applications which RIM intends to create for the new Torch’s release. Also, Blackberry’s award winning software also will get an upgrade, with the next model having the new BlackBerry OS 6.1.

The Blackberry World show is in May and it can be expected that RIM will announce the release of the phone then. The rumours have it that they will schedule a July US release so expect the phone to hit the shops here a month or so later.

BlackBerry Storm Get Cut Price at $99

We’re pretty sure the BlackBerry Storm 2’s announcement is coming soon, and we just got a little more evidence: The not-so-loved original Storm’s price has just been dropped to $99 with a 2-year contract.

If you’re sure you need to stick with Verizon, this probably looks enticing, but we’d definitely recommend waiting. The Storm 2 will probably cost in the $150-250 range to compete with the iPhone, Pre, and various Android offerings, and for all we know, it might be great. Even the BlackBerry Tour might be a better option that the original Storm, which isn’t the worst phone ever but hasn’t exactly been a fan favorite either. [Verizon]

Sprint Launched LG LX290, Inferno BlackBerry Curve 8330

The mobile phone market is doing well despite the poor economy, particularly in the smartphone segment. There is also a market for devices that aren’t smartphones but offer lots of features and are centered on messaging.

Specifications for the LG LX290 have been provided to us by Sprint and the device looks to be a solid phone for those looking to keep in touch. The handset will be available on the Sprint network and features a sliding design, access to email, and text messages.

Other features include a 2.5mm headphone jack, which means your headphones probably won’t fit. The device is GPS-enabled and supports email form AOL, Yahoo, and Windows Live. The device can record and send voice messages. The handset measure 4.09-inches x 1.94-inches x 0.63-inches and weighs 3.6 ounces. The screen is a 1.33 x 1.77-inch TFT with a resolution of 240 x 320. Pricing and availability are not known.

Sprint has also released a new color version of the

BlackBerry Curve 8330: Inferno (which is actually some sort of orange).

The Inferno
BlackBerry Curve 8330 costs $49.99 with a 2-yr contract agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Like the LG LX290, the new Curve can be bought both online and from Sprint’s retail locations.

Of course, you can always buy the brand new BlackBerry Tour instead.

BlackBerry Tour beside Bold and Curve 8900

Besides curve 8900 (right), Tour look more plump.

BlackBerry Tour is the latest BlackBerry will appear on the Verizon network in the near future, model design carries Bold and sharpness of curve 8900.

BlackBerry Curve 8900 Goes to AT&T

All those AT&T subscribers waiting for their carrier to finally offer the Curve 8900 should be feeling pretty happy right now. Word on the street is that the Curve 8900 is heading to AT&T and this BlackBerry will be available in stores in June. The phone will not come with any different features compared to the T-Mobile version so it won’t surprise you in any way. The prices for the 8900 haven’t been announced yet but you should expect AT&T’s Curve 8900 to cost as much as the T-Mobile version.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 (Gemini) gets pictured

Yes, people, it is now confirmed that the Gemini is indeed the yet-to-be-official BlackBerry Curve 8520, that low-end smartphone we told you about a month back. But the Curve 8520 being in the lower segment has not deterred RIM from slipping in a few surprises, which could become regular features in any upcoming BlackBerry smartphones. The most glaring of these surprises would of course be the square-shaped optical trackball (something like Nokia’s navipad) which replaces the traditional trackball found on other RIM devices. The edges are now padded with rubber with rubberized keys for better durability. Ignoring the fact that this baby won’t be cruising any 3G waves, we definitely like what RIM has done otherwise. Selfridges Blackberry Bold

Selfridges Blackberry Bold

To mark the 100th birthday of the store, Selfridges has commissioned RIM to make a limited edition Blackberry Bold. The back of the phone is colored in Selfridges trademark pantone 109 yellow (bright yellow). Each of the handsets which are numbered from one to ten cost a hefty £1000 and come with VIP support.

The UK department store has confirmed that it has already sold six of the 10 limited edition yellow BlackBerry Bold handsets. In addition to RIM, the department store is also urging on other brands to design limited edition products to mark the 100th birthday of this elite store.

Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm Receives New OS Update

For all you Storm users under contract with Verizon, there’s a new OS that’s going to arrive soon. In a recent internal Verizon memo OS version 4.7.0.141 is mentioned. The memo also says that the new OS is here and it should be available soon to all Verizon customers that own a BlackBerry Storm 9530. RIM is apparently working on an even bigger version, 4.7.0.201 for the same phone but until such version is available you should try out Verizon’s update. As always, make sure you backup before you start messing up that RIM phone. And make sure you tell us how you feel about the new OS!

Orange to Bring Wikipedia to Its Phones

I don’t know about you guys but Wikipedia is one of my favorite places to go while on the web. The information might not always be accurate but you will surely get a general idea of the topic you were researching. And Wikipedia is a must-have on one’s mobile.

Orange and the Wikimedia Foundation have announced a partnership and European subscribers should be happy to know that Orange phones will get Wiki content soon enough. What you can expect is Wikipedia-dedicated channels on Orange’s web and mobile portals at first, Wikipedia-based widgets and even applications. That means Wikipedia will load a whole lot more faster on Orange phones in the near future. The service will be launched in the UK, Spain, France and Poland at first but other European markets will follow.

And the contract has to be one of Alltel’s Smart Choice Packs which start at $69.99 per month in order to get that discounted price. The All Smart Choice Packs plans come with unlimited data which fit perfectly with BlackBerry users. Alltel will have the Pearl Flip 8320 in shop in early May in all its markets so keep checking your local representative if you’re waiting to get your hands on this Berry.

T-Mobile UK introduces “Pay Once” Blackberry Pearl 8110 deal

Now here’s an idea: T-Mobile UK has recently announced the addition of a “Pay Once” option for those interested in buying the Blackberry Pearl 8110.

If you choose this deal, you’ll pay a one time fee of £180/$262 and get a brand new Blackberry Pearl 8110 complete with unlimited internet and email for a year. Sounds cool, right?

The only problem is that there aren’t any minutes bundled with the “Pay Once” deal so you’re forced to deal with a pay-as-you-go method of obtaining minutes. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all!

Blackberry Storm’s firmware to get updated

Research in Motion, creator of the popular Blackberry branding, has recently announced that their debut touchscreen device, the Storm, is now ready to have its firmware updated.

The update brings the firmware up to version 4.7.0.113 and is said to be the first major update since December. This version not only fixes a bunch of the glitches that many users had gripes about but also adds some newfound functionality to the device. After updating you’ll be able to use a full QWERTY keyboard in portrait mode making for a much smoother experience.

There is no telling when the firmware will actually be made available for download but Verizon assures us it will be soon.

BlackBerry Storm 2 Officially Confirmed for 2009

Apple is getting ready to launch a new iPhone and RIM’s response seems to be a new BlackBerry Storm. The Storm 2 has been confirmed by Alain Segond von Banchet, RIM’s Channel Sales manager in the Netherlands. The phone should arrive in late 2009 or early 2010. Isn’t that too late? The new handset will launch with KPN which must mean the second Storm won’t be a Vodafone exclusive.

What novelties will the Storm 2 bring us? A new touch input method which should be better than what we’ve seen so far. We’re guessing that other things are also going to be added by RIM because just a new input method will not suffice in this tough business.

RIM to Make a BlackBerry Dedicated to U2?

The fact that Bono and his U2 have left Apple and joined RIM isn’t news anymore. But what got our attention lately was the possibility for RIM to make a special BlackBerry dedicated to U2. Here’s what Bono himself said about RIM:

I’m very excited about this. Research In Motion is going to give us what Apple wouldn’t — access to their labs and their people so we can do something really spectacular.

Does that mean a new phone? Bono says that “you’re not far off.” A special edition U2 BlackBerry would be quite interesting but at this point we don’t have any idea if that is going to happen. Most likely we’ll see an older Berry packed with an impressive U2 collection. We’ll be waiting for Bono to tell us more about the initiative.

BlackBerry 9500 Storm debuts in UAE

After a successful trip in other parts of the world, the BlackBerry Storm is now ready to invade the UAE. Etisalat will be the lucky carrier this time. Abdulla Hashim, VP, Business Solutions, Etisalat, had this to say on the occasion:

RIM Sold 50 Million BlackBerries

RIM has finally sold its 50 millionth phone so they should feel like celebrating and make some special BlackBerry to mark the occasion. RIM has also announced the number of its current user base which has reached 25 million. 3.9 million were added in the last quarter and we’re probably going to see even more Berries sold in this quarter. The last quarter brouight in $3.46 billion which is 24.5% more than the previous quarter. What about you? Are you going to buy a BlackBerry soon?

RIM Opens Blackberry App Store

Who says that the iPhone is the only one with an App Store? Apparently, RIM has opened its own app store for the Blackberry. While RIM releases some of the most popular business smart phones — Blackberries — it has lost some ground to Apple’s iPhone and Google’s G1 phone which both feature an application marketplace.

Now it has launched its BlackBerry App World store, its response to these competitors. Support for the store will be rolled out onto Blackberry phones nationwide. The store will offer both free and priced applications available via over-the-air download. The store is currently only available in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, but more countries will soon be added.

The front page of App World will feature a carousel like design of featured applications, which will vary weekly. A list of most popular applications is also included. The site features a keyword search capability, as well as reviews and recommendations. People can send recommendations via email, PIN, SMS message or BlackBerry Messenger

During May 5-7, the Wireless Enterprise Symposium will be underway in Florida and RIM is said to unveil a new device which will have inside a fast 1GHz processor. We’re actually anxious to see what BlackBerry RIM has been working on, especially since we already are waiting for a Toshiba smartphone wearing a 1GHz processor this year. Doer RIM already have a competitor for the TG01 and for the third generation iPhone? Igloo Releases Blackberry Application

SlingPlayer Media for Blackberry

For people who love to watch streaming movies via their iPhone, you can now get your hands on the full version of the previously beta version of the SlingPlayer Media for Blackberry. Sling Media has announced that its SlingPlayer Mobile for Blackberry. Now available for $29.99 or part of a a 30-day free trial.

Previously only available as part of public BETA testing, the application can now ready for everyone. After downloading the application, users can add and edit Slingboxes then change channels directly through the mobile application. SlingPlayer Mobile allows users to watch video content streamed live from their home Slingbox digital video device.
