
John Carmack, co-founder of id Software, developer of very popular games such as Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake has just released an open-source port of Wolfenstein for jailbroken iPhone.
He has also announced that they have submitted a version of Wolfenstein; Wolfenstein 3D Classic to the App Store for approval. He has also confirmed that Doom will be available fairly soon. Read the rest of this entry »

Some folks insist that one of the deal breakers of the iPhone is the lack of a physical keyboard while, in my opinion as a long time iPhone user who is used to its virtual keyboard, the need for a physical keyboard is unnecessary.
However, I have realized that as user habits change, and they depend more and more on smartphones like the iPhone rather than laptops while they are on the move and start using them for things like writing blog posts, long emails etc then an external keyboard can prove to be quite useful. Based on Phil Schiller’s, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing statement to David Pogue of New York Times at Macworld 2009, it was quite obvious that Apple would be releasing their new iPhone in June.

The iPhone rumor mill is working overtime.
Apple’s special event to preview iPhone firmware 3.0 has started a flurry of rumors and speculations of the next generation iPhone which is speculated to be released in June.
This week doesn’t seem to be any different as Mac Rumors is reporting that they are “hearing whispers” that the new iPhone will support a 7.2Mbit chipset in line with what we had heard last week about Apple’s next generation iPhone supporting faster internet connectivity. Folks at Beejive recently released a new version of their awesome Instant Messaging app BeejiveIM which is one of our favorite iPhone apps. You can read our review of the iPhone app here.
The new version of BeejiveIM (2.1.0) includes support for Facebook IM, ability to customize the background wallpaper within the iPhone app and anti-piracy measures to fight piracy of their iPhone app after Crackulous was released; a jailbreak app which strips copy protection from iPhone apps and render them free for distribution. We had reported couple of days back that an interesting screenshot from iPhone Firmware 3.0 beta suggests that video recording capabilities could arrive in the next generation iPhone.
AppleInsider is also confirming this speculation. They are claiming that as per their source who’s proven extremely reliable with Apple related news has informed them that Apple will be introducing video recording capabilities in their next generation iPhone. Read the rest of this entry »

Smarthouse, an Australian website is claiming that as per their source, Apple’s new iPhone which is widely speculated to be released in June will include an OLED screen made by LG.
If this rumor is true then an OLED screen along with a better battery pack could address one of my biggest gripes about iPhone 3G which is poor battery life. Read the rest of this entry »
