Technology never ceases to amaze us. We all know that Apple has expanded efforts to make the iPhone multi-functional but apparently now, an iPhone can even be used to conduct ultrasound exams thanks to a pair of engineers at Washington University in St. Louis. William D. Richard and David M. Zar have adapted an ultrasound probe that works on a half-watt of power from a cellphone.
That means that ultrasound exams could be conducted nearly anywhere while the image is piped to a doctor at a distant location. What makes this a big advance is not just the technology, but also its potential to greatly reduce the cost of ultrasound machines, making it practical to put them in pockets of E.M.T.’s, battlefield medics, school nurses and third-world obstetricians. Goldstriker has struck the right cords (for a previleged few) many times before, but it seems that they have outdone themselves this innings. They have now replaced the whole body (not just the plating, mind) of an iPhone 3G with solid 22-carat gold and added 53 exquisite VVS1 diamonds to the Apple logo found on the back. It took four craftsmen and months of intricate work by hand to finally get this iPhone blinged out and needless to say, all that hard work don’t come cheap. This special iPhone 3G goes for no less than a staggering £22,995, roughly $34k or a kid’s college education. We are not sure if this includes an early shot at iPhone 3.0 OS, but who cares as long as it shiny all over right?

It was just yesterday that we found out how Apple and Verizon are cooking up a new iPhone for 2010 ready to run on Big Red’s CDMA network. And now this: Microsoft and Verizon are working on an iPhone killer. Or did everyone misunderstood the whole Apple and Verizon thing? According to certain sources Verizon is in talks with Microsoft about that whole iPhone killer. Codenamed project “Pink” the phone will be designed by Microsoft and it will come with lots of multimedia features and, of course, a large touchscreen. The new phone is going to run on Windows Mobile but it’s going to be a tweaked version. So what say you Microsoft? How are you going to explain to everyone else that’s using your OS the new phone? After all everyone knows that Microsoft will not develop an own phone right?

We kept talking about how Verizon is not going to get a CDMA iPhone soon and how AT&T will keep its grip on that exclusivity iPhone agreement. Until today that was all true. Now it looks like Verizon wants the iPhone and not only does it want it but it’s working on it with Apple. According to USA Today the iPhone will be going to Verizon as soon as the exclusivity deal expires. I hope you’re sitting down for this: the Verizon iPhone will run on the CDMA network which is quite the contrary of what we knew so far. Isn’t iPhone 2010 going to use that fresh 4G LTE network?

We all know that there are various ways to access PCs and for people who hold talks and presentations, the need for flexible interface is a need. Guess what? With an iPhone, you can control your PC from a distance with Air Mouse Pro!
The top half of the Air Mouse Pro Screen features a two-button trackpad, while the bottom half gives you a keyboard, along with controls for browsing the Web and playing movies and music. Using the accelerometer and touchscreen of either an iPhone or iPod touch, Air Mouse works over a local Wi-Fi network to control your computer’s mouse and keyboard.
Before using the app, you do need to install a small application on your computer-there’s a version for both Mac OS X and Windows users-which manages the connection and controls many of the mouse and keyboard settings.

Nothing beats placing your iPhone in stylish casings. If you are in the market for one, perhaps you should consider getting one of these wooden casings. The term ‘wooden iPhone case’ doesn’t conjure up an image of the sleekest, sveltest way to protect my device, but somehow Etsy seller Substrata has managed to create just that.
Their series of handmade wooden cases for the 3G are shaped and sanded to compliment the iPhone’s curves, and the inside is contoured to hold the phone snugly. Just keep in mind that while your phone is being protected, you won’t have access to any of the buttons.
It looks like there are three versions of the case to choose from, depending on your wood grain preference, and given they’re handmade, the $84.99 price tag is not that surprising.

The word on the street is that Apple has specific instructions for its retailers to put all those old iPhone/iPod touch A/V cords on clearance as there’s a new set coming. In fact the new cord will support HD output for Apple TV functions. It will use six RCA connectors which will deal very well with both SD or HD content. Now we need more details about what the new iPhone and iPod touch will be able to do when it comes to HD content. The current model can handle HD videos just fine so what’s the next thing do if it needs new a totally new cord?
