China has been waiting for the iPhone for a long while now. And from what we hear the phone will come officially for the Chinese customers via China Unicom. The carrier has posted iPhone specs on its official site without posting prices or actual availability dates. According to unconfirmed rumors, the phone will be launched on May 17th. We’ve been hearing lots and lots of rumors about the new iPhone and today we have some confirmed facts regarding the handset. Here’s what we know so far from AT&T:
- New iPhone announcement around mid-June
- New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device
- U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR
- The annual iPhone launch is “becoming a tradition.”
- Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
- AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
- Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the iPhone platform is going.
- They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new iPhone.
- Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumors of the new Infineon chipset.
- The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.

What will the new iPhone bring us? I mean besides that firmware 3.0 which we’ve seen explained and demoed a thousand times so far. What hardware upgrades are we to expect?
According to recent rumors the new iPhone should receive an important Internet speed boost. We don’t know have the exact details but the Internet connection is said to be significantly faster. Will we see a new 3G chip from Infineon? Are we going to get 7.2Mbps 3G? Is the WiFi going to be upgraded? Get used to these new rumors, we’re going to send more your way until this June.

All the carriers are pointing to Apple’s next iPhone. AT&T is getting ready to sell iPhones with no contract, Fido is planning on clearing its 16GB stock and O2 has announced new 24 month iPhone 3G tariffs for the UK.
Starting with April 3 UK customers will get an 8GB iPhone 3G for free with a 2-year contract and a data plan of at least £34.26 per month. The 16GB iPhone 3G will also be offered for free with a 2-year contract of at least £44.05 per month.
