Nokia N86’s kickstand is alive

While the N96’s kickstand was just a bit of plastic to prop the handset up when displaying pictures or videos, the N86’s kickstand’s is in a different league altogether. The stand can be assigned to open up any application installed on the N86 when it is kicked out. So if you want a video player to launch every time you pop up the kickstand, you can do just that. Now, how cool is that? Just goes to show that it’s innovation like this that puts Nokia right above other manufacturers.

The thing with rumors and hidden sources is that you can never know exactly who’s telling the truth. Yesterday we heard that the Palm Eos will be released by AT&T. Today we hear the Sprint will have it too in the third quarter of the year. Sources within Sprint have confirmed such a device and the said handset is in testing as we speak. Maybe by tomorrow T-Mobile will also have a version of the Eos scheduled for release this fall. will the Pre arrive from any other carriers? We’ll keep you updated!

And on a different not the Eos could very well wear one of the following names: Mini Pre, Pixie or Castle.

May 11 is the day when Verizon Wireless will launch a new Samsung phone, the SCH-U750 or the Alias 2. Or so do people say thus far. The phone is similar in design to its predecessor, the U740. The Alias also has a dual-hinged mechanism but the QWERTY keyboard is replaced with a dynamic keyboard. How does it work? Well, when you open the phone in portrait clam shell mode, you will have a standard numeric keypad available. When you open it in landscape mode and a QWERTY keyboard comes to life. Other specs incluyde a 2.6-inch QVGA internal display, 2.0 megapixel camera, voice commands, dedicated hot key for one-touch Bluetooth access and various Verizon customizations.

The Alias 2 doesn’t have a price just yet but we expect it to cost anywhere from $200 to $250 before rebates. Of course, you will be paying a lot less since you’re going to get it with a new 2-year contract.

Samsung Instinct s30

Samsung Instinct s30

Samsung recently unveiled the Instinct s30 mobile phone, which on the outside looks like a smaller version of the original Instinct.  However, the Instinct s30 is not really a mini Instinct.

Compared to the original Instinct, the s30 has a far sexier appearance.  The curves around the edges make it more pleasing to look at compared to the blockish stature of the original Instinct.  The 3.2-inch display with 432 x 240 resolution, however, leaves us begging for a much clearer screen.  It takes quite a while to turn the power off, and the teeny-weeny 1GB microSD card slot makes it hard to eject.  The saving grace in the Instinct s30’s design is having a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack.

The Instinct s30 uses the similar OS to the original Instinct, which some users find disappointing.  The icons on the main screen could not be customized, and the text messages still appear as a pop-up alert even when the message panel or web browser is loaded, making an utter nuisance.  The built-in applications for MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, and Photobucket come as mildly impressive, but the applications found in BlackBerry App World come as superior.  But when it comes to the basic tasks like typing a text message, making calls, and checking voicemail, users can definitely rely on the s30. samsung-xplorer

Mobile phones nowadays see to cater to different niches to attract buyers. With a very competitive mobile phone market, manufacturers tend to offer mobile phones that certain segments of the consumer public may find attractive rather than just for the general population. And with this in mind, Samsung has recently announced a mobile phone that would cater to the outdoorsy types.

Samsung has recently announced its Samsung Xplorer mobile phone. The Samsung B2100 Xplorer is said to be a rugged low cost mobile phone that focuses on toughness and durability rather than just on its internal features. Many mobile phones may offer different and unique phone functions for attraction. This rugged little mobile phone does not. You can consider it as a fairly basic mobile phone with its 1.77 inch TFT display, 1.3 mega pixel camera, FM radio and mp3 player, Bluetooth connectivity and a MicroSD expansion slot. But its other rugged features make it even more appealing. Read the rest of this entry »
