Mackie debuts 1800W, 1600W HD loudspeakers

Mackie has introduced two new high-definition loudspeakers, the 1800W HD1531, and 1600W HD1521. Both speakers incorporate the company’s acoustic correction processing that delivers transducer time alignment and phase correction, and features a 15-inch neodymium woofer with 3-inch voice coil, and a 1.75-inch titanium compression driver with heat-treated titanium diaphragm. Also integrated is Mackie’s fast-recovery circuitry, which helps the amp recover from the occasional aggressive transient, to provide clean audio under most situations. The HD1521 offers a 700W RMS low-frequency amplification, and 100W RMS high-frequency amplification. It’s made from birch plywood and weighs roughly 80 pounds. With the HD1531 users receive a tri amplified system that offers an extra 6-inch high-output mid-range transducer; it weighs approximately 96 pounds. Both speakers also come with 12 integrated fly points for hanging the speaker either horizontally or vertically, as well as the ability to be mounted on a pole or stand.

They are available for purchase — priced at $1200 for the HD1531, and 1000 for the HD1521.

Jabra unveils SP200 Bluetooth speakerphone

Jabra has unveiled its newest Bluetooth device, the SP200, its latest speakerphone. Building off the Jabra SP700, the SP200 is designed to attach to a car visor and provide hands-free talking. The devices comes with noise reduction and echo cancellation technology, is capable of offering up to 10 hours of talk time, and has a standby time of roughly 23 days. Auto-pairing also makes using multiple devices relatively seamless. The SP200 includes Bluetooth 2.0 support and comes with a universal car charger. The Jabra SP200 is available for purchase and has a suggested retail price of $60.

Samsung intros 5.1-channel home theater system

Samsung on Tuesday announced the upcoming release of the affordable 650W HT-AS730 5.1-channel home theater sound system which features 1080p video pass-through support. The system can be quickly upgraded to a 7.1-channel system with the purchase of two new speakers. The system is also easy to setup, thanks to Samsung’s Auto Sound Calibration that includes a microphone to gauge a room’s dimensions and speaker orientation. The Smart Volume function also keeps volume at a consistent, pre-set level despite the volume of the source, preventing surprises when switching channels or sources. There is also an integrated iPod and iPhone dock. No disc player is integrated into the receiver, although an FM tuner is built-in. There are three HDMI-CEC inputs, with a single HDMI-CEC output, along with three optical audio inputs and a single coaxial input. Samsung didn’t bother including lesser, analog connections, and the system is set-up for wireless rear speakers. The speaker cones are made of Bio kelp instead of paper, which is made from renewable materials. Adding to its green credentials is the system’s Energy Star compliance.Supported sound processing codecs include Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro-Logic-II, Dolby Pro-Logic-IIx, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS ES Discrete 6.1, DTS 96/24 and DTS Neo 6. Audio upscaling is also supported by the HT-AS730.

The HT-AS730 will launch in April, priced at just shy of $500.

Zeppelin iPod speaker

Bowers and Wilkins will soon launch new versions of the award winning Zeppelin iPod speaker later in the year. Assuring fresh “new media” models, a spokesman for the company said that a hi-fi specialist was working on a “baby” version of the speaker.

The good news for music fans is that a smaller version of the speaker is likely to mean a smaller price, something that many say has put them off in the past from becoming a Bowers & Wilkins follower. Unfortunately there is still no word on when they will be released or how much they will cost.

Lenovo Issues Recall on ThinkVision Speaker AC Adaptors

Due to a potential shock hazard, Lenovo has been forced to announce a recall on its ThinkVision Speakers AC Adaptor. The plastic shell of the AC Adaptor can crack, posing a risk of electric shock to consumers.

Lenovo sold the AC Adaptors as part of the ThinkVision Soundbar option. The FRU part number 89P8571 with date code 200810 is located on the back of the adaptor.

Lenovo’s Web sites, telephone and direct sales, and Lenovo authorized distributors nationwide from October 2008 through January 2009, as an accessory for about $30. Consumers should stop using the recalled AC Adaptor and contact Lenovo to receive a free replacement part.
